Private scholarships for educational expenses may be obtained through a wide variety of outside sources. Students in search of scholarships to pay for college may find some of the links below useful. Numerous organizations and companies offer scholarships based on varying criteria, including intended degree, GPA or even personal hobbies and interests. We encourage all students to research and apply for scholarships, many are even available year round.

CollegeFish transfer scholarships is a free tool for both community colleges and their students. Students can research colleges, get organized, and successfully plan and prepare for community college completion and transfer. Including access to transfer guides, college and university transfer programming, and over $37 million in transfer scholarships, CollegeFish provides a number interactive, online resources to keep students on track and support the community college staff who serve them.


Foundation scholarships

More than $125,000 is awarded to Whatcom students each year from the WCC Foundation, thanks to contributions from donors. There are both merit and need-based opportunities for awards from $200 to full tuition. The application process opens each January for scholarships funding the following academic year. State financial aid for DREAMers

Beginning with the 2014-15 academic year, a new state law will expand eligibility for the Washington State Need Grant to non-citizens who meet the program's income and eligibility requirements in addition to:

  • Having graduated from a Washington high school or obtained a GED
  • Having lived in Washington for three years prior to earning the high school diploma or equivalent and continuously since
  • Signing an affidavit to file and application to become a permanent resident of the United States when eligible to apply
