Health Insurance for International Students
All WCC international students are required to have health insurance at all times throughout their studies. Whatcom Community College's suggested provider is Lewer Health Insurance.
In order to protect students, and to make insurance registration as simple as possible Whatcom will begin adding Lewer Health Insurance coverage ($249/quarter) to each student’s bill when they register each quarter starting in Spring 2012.
This means that all students must pay for Lewer Health Insurance, but there are some exceptions: If students can prove that they have another type of health insurance with coverage equal to Lewer Health Insurance ($100,000 of coverage or more) with documentation in English, then the charge for Lewer Health Insurance will be removed from their bill.
If you would like the $249 charge for Lewer Health Insurance removed from your bill, you must provide proof of insurance (in English) to International Programs. Copies of your insurance coverage can be left at the front desk of International Programs with Office Manager, Iris Metzgen-Ohlswager. This must be done by the day you register each quarter, to get a refund. For more information about Lewer Health Insurance, please visit their website at:
